Easter Island Presented by Polyenesian Tattoo Jewelry

Easter Island Presented by Polyenesian Tattoo Jewelry

Easter Island - or  "Rapanui" to its inhabitants, tattooing is called "Ta" and was done just as their Polynesian ancestors.  The inhabitants of Easter Island referred to the island as "Pito O Te Henua" or Navel of the World, maybe because it sits alone some 2,500 miles west of South America (Chile) and even further from the nearest Polynesian island.  Easter Island is the most eastern most of the Polynesian islands, making it one of the most isolated places on earth. The men and women of Easter Island were tattooed on the face and almost their entire bodies.  Many of the Easter Island motifs are representative  of their surroundings at the time, which were plants, spear heads, porposies, hooks, their houses (that resembled an upside down boat), sea and land birds and last but not least the "moai", Easter Island's most famous statues.  Easter Island currently has about 100 statues, standing in varying heights from 10 feet to 40 feet.  To this day, the "moai" is a source of curiosity among archaeologist, when it comes to their origin and how they were erected. Now Polynesian Tattoo Jewelry brings you Easter Islands tattoos in sterling silver
